Winter ~ Spring ~ Summer
1 Tunic ~ 1 Pair of leggings ~ 8 Different shoes ~ Limitless accessory options!
Every Midwest girl knows all too well the roller coaster of temperatures that we ride every year. Here are two extremely versatile wardrobe must-haves that will transition nicely through nearly the entire year! I have styled these pieces with several different shoe options and a few scarves…..
Linen-Cotton Notch Neck Shirt ~ Light Blue
This Express shirt fit is long and is even cut longer in the back. It may be because of my short torso, but it covers all the parts that need to be covered, and therefore can be worn as a tunic with leggings. This color blue is PERFECT to transition at this time of year. The powder/ice blue works as both a winter and a summer color! *NOTE: Content is 60% linen 40% cotton which lends to warmer temps. Avoid wearing linen in the very cold months…unless you’re on vacation!
The crisp pastel feels clean and chic, while the linen and convertible sleeves feels upscale casual. The versatility of this shirt is beyond the capacity of just one blog post! Imagine paired with white jeans….classic and perfect! So expect to see a lot more of this shirt from me this year.
Hi-Rise Side Zip Leggings ~ Heathered Charcoal
My pair shown is heathered charcoal that I purchased Fall 2014. The same style available now in black at American Eagle. Black is just as versatile as charcoal, if not more. These leggings are pretty soft, comfortable and well constructed. The side zip is a great detail to show off when wearing with flats or heels! The side zip makes it a little tougher to wear with boots. But I simply put the zippers OVER my socks so they don’t press against my ankles in boots. A good pair of versatile leggings under $20, done!
Here are these 2 Spring style staples paired with several shoe and scarf options:
I layered the shirt over a light peach tank and complimented that with a peach ombre necklace I’ve had for years. A high, braided pony to complete the clean and casual look.
Originally I imagined this outfit would be perfect with just a pair of bright white sneakers! And it WILL! ….as soon as I find them. Maybe a pair of Chuck’s? *I do not recommend this outfit with pumps/heels. My booties were pushing it, flats are ideal.
Obviously, almost ANY scarf will coordinate! Florals, fringed, stripes, solids…. just about anything can work with these two totally transitional pieces. Prints would be a great way to add interest to the solid outfit. I would avoid anything taupe, as taupe and grey are clashing neutrals. Add darker scarves when it’s cold and/or rainy. And as the summer arrives change to lighter weight fabrics and colors!
This look is perfect for weekend wear, working from home, or running around with the kids. Grab these two transitional wardrobe staples, or something very similar you already own, and there you have that effortless-chic look that makes you feel comfortable, cool and coordinated!
